“Edo Kiriko” Glass Making Experience in Tokyo’s Asakusa

Feel the Lifestyle of Tokyo

“Edo Kiriko” is a traditional Tokyo glass cutting technique, originating in the early 19th century. It’s characterized by incredibly delicate patterns, transforming ordinary glasses into exquisite works of art.

In this tour, you will learn how to make Edo Kiriko at the “Soukichi” Edo Kiriko experience workshop, located just a one-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Ginza Subway Line. Conveniently situated for sightseeing in Asakusa, it offers an easy and accessible experience.

The workshop is operated by “Glass Factory Soukichi,” where artisans of Edo Kiriko will teach you their professional skills with detailed care. English-speaking assistants are available to translate the craftsmen’s instructions.

First, choose the glass you would like to work on. Then, sketch your preferred pattern on it. Finally, use specialized tools to carefully cut the pattern onto your glass.
