Among the most famous are Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture and Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture, both located in central Honshu. However, if your starting point is in Eastern Japan, especially Tokyo, Ouchi-juku presents itself as an excellent alternative. Please note that the guide will be on foot, so any use of buses or taxis should be discussed with the guide in advance.
