The Wild ‘Kazura Bridge’ is Extremely Popular
Iya Valley, located deep within the mountains of Shikoku, is a beautiful gorge and a highly popular tourist destination in the region. It is said that the Heike clan, a samurai family that ruled Japan around 800 years ago, fled to this area after being defeated by a rival faction. Several suspension bridges, believed to have been used by the Heike, remain in the valley to this day. These bridges are made using ‘kazura’, a type of plant. The bridge you will visit during this tour spans 45 meters in length and stands 14 meters above the valley floor. Take a moment to look down at the gorge from atop the bridge. The surrounding mountains and the old villages on the mountain slopes are incredibly beautiful and will surely leave a lasting impression.
