Explore the sacred ancient road
The Kumano Kodo refers to a network of pilgrimage routes leading to the three shrines known as “Kumano Sanzan” (Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Hayatama Taisha, and Kumano Nachi Taisha) located on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama Prefecture. It is registered as a World Heritage Site. In this tour, a licensed English-speaking guide will tailor a 6-hour trek to suit your preferences.
The “Kumano Sanzan” has been a site of pilgrimage for people ranging from imperial family members, nobility, to commoners for over a thousand years, maintaining its solemn atmosphere to this day. Walking along the old roads leading to the Kumano Sanzan, you will find solace among trees over a thousand years old and ancient cobblestone paths.
The Kumano Kodo extends across Wakayama, Mie, and Nara Prefectures, covering a total distance of several hundred kilometers. Given the 6-hour duration of this tour, the distance that can be covered is limited, so it’s best to consult with your guide in advance to plan your itinerary. Once you’ve chosen the spots you wish to visit, the guide will customize the itinerary for you. The guide will meet you at the designated meeting point on foot. No private vehicle is provided in this tour; please request in advance if necessary.
