Kintsugi Workshop: One-Day Experience – Learn the Traditional Art of Repairing Broken Pottery Pieces

Kintsugi is a technique that has been used in the tea ceremony for centuries.

Kintsugi is a long-cherished technique used in tea ceremonies, where broken pottery is repaired using lacquer and decorated with gold. Instead of discarding a broken piece of pottery, kintsugi allows it to be restored, often making it even more beautiful than before. Pieces repaired using kintsugi have been widely used in tea ceremonies for centuries.

In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the art of kintsugi firsthand, working with actual broken pottery pieces. Even if you’re in Tokyo, this tour offers an accessible way to experience a craft deeply rooted in the cultures of Kyoto and Kanazawa.

The workshop is led by a couple who have been teaching the techniques of kintsugi for decades. Enjoy a quiet and profound time learning this traditional Japanese art.
