Experience Shinto Shrine at Kanda Myojin in Tokyo

Learn about Shinto Shrines at One of Tokyo’s Premier Shrines

Kanda Myojin is a prestigious Shinto shrine in Tokyo, believed to have been established in the 8th century. This shrine offers a “Trial Tour” of about one hour to both Japanese and international guests, aiming to provide insights into Japan’s Shinto practices. The tours are held irregularly, about once a month. If you are interested in Shinto shrines, participating in this Trial Tour could be a worthwhile experience.

During the Trial Tour, a “Miko”, a Shinto shrine maiden, will explain the basics of the shrine. Following that, she will guide you around the shrine grounds and teach you the proper way to worship.

At Japanese shrines, visitors often write their wishes on wooden plaques called “EMA”, praying for them to come true, or draw “OMIKUJI”, a type of fortune-telling strip. Participants in this Trial Tour will have the opportunity to experience these cultural practices.
