Highly Recommended During Your Kyoto Trip
Miyama Town, located in the Nantan City of Kyoto Prefecture, is a traditional village situated about an hour and a half drive to the north from the center of Kyoto City. In this tour, after visiting the famous tourist spot Arashiyama in Kyoto City, you will travel to Miyama Town by a private taxi. The town preserves the scenery of old Japanese rural landscapes, with about 50 farmhouses featuring thatched roofs lined up, creating a tranquil view that is sure to soothe your soul.
When it comes to traditional villages in Japan, Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture is well-known. In Shirakawa-go, you can tour a village with steeply pitched thatched roofs, characteristic of heavy snowfall areas, and feel the lifestyle of the people living amidst the heavy snow. However, traveling to Shirakawa-go from Kyoto or Tokyo takes a considerable amount of time. On the other hand, Miyama Town allows you to easily drop by on a day trip while sightseeing in Kyoto. Although it does not receive as much snow as Shirakawa-go, if you are traveling around Kyoto, Miyama Town is highly recommended for a visit.
